HOW DO I BECOME MORE GROUNDED?
- Being mindful, centred and present
- Walking, especially in nature
- Doing sport, yoga, tai chi etc.
- Using visualisation techniques
VISUALISATION
For all visualisations sit in a comfortable position with your arms resting at your sides and both your feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. Let your breathing be slow and relaxed. Choose from the following techniques:
- Imagine you are surrounded by a deep, earthy colour such as red, brown or terracotta. This colour can take the form of light, a cloak or a blanket.
- Imagine there are long, sturdy roots growing out of the bottom of your feet into the earth below. Let these roots anchor you to the earth.
- See your body as a strong tree. Your body is solid like the wide, brown trunk of the tree. Imagine sturdy roots growing from your legs and going down deeply into the earth, anchoring your body. You feel solid and strong, able to handle any situation.
- Imagine a thick, wide chord attaching itself to the base of your spine. This is your grounding chord. It can be a thick piece of rope, a tree trunk, or any other material that feels strong and stable. Make sure your chord is wide and sturdy enough. Imagine a thick metal hook attaching itself to the end of your chord. Visualise your grounding chord dropping down into the depths of the earth and hooking onto the solid bedrock below. Breathe deeply and notice the sense of peace and stability your grounding chord can help you achieve. Replace your grounding chord every day or whenever you feel you are not grounded.
